In the case of a goose rolling an egg, the releaser is the sight of an egg or an egglike object outside the nest. Even if the egg is then taken away, the goose behaves in the same way. It goes through the same motions, which shows that the response is an innate behavior. Interestingly, geese will carry out egg-rolling behavior only while their eggs are being incubated. Once the eggs hatch, a goose will not retrieve an egg or egglike object placed outside the nest. Using an eyedropper, place a drop of water in the center of a clean microscope slide. Transfer the sample you wish to mount to the drop of water on the microscope slide. Carefully add a coverslip to make a wet-mount preparation of the sample. To avoid air bubbles, slowly lower the coverslip at an angle on the drop so that air bubbles do not form on the slide.
